Scarf Time! LTTSA + a new challenge

Have you ever started a pattern thinking that you basically had it figured out from the picture, only to find out mid-way that it is completely not what you thought but is actually a million times better ?! Well as you probably guessed this recently happened to me. I'm going a bit rogue this month on the Little Things to Sew-Along. I am going to make some of the other projects in the book instead of the puppet theater. I really like the puppet theater but I can already envision the heartbreak it will bring as 1 1/2 year old George would tear it down in a second and Sophie would be traumatized. By next Christmas we might be ready for it.
The weather turned cooler this week and the No Tie Scarf pattern seemed perfect for my little ones. So back to my opening sentence. This pattern totally blew my mind! Of course this could have been due to the massive amount of cold medicine I was taking(the whole family had a bad cold this week). I assumed that the "loop" referred to in the instructions would be attached to the back of the scarf. The photos in the book never really show this detail. The loop is actually between the lining and the top of the scarf. This is so great because the scarf is reversible!
The first scarf I made I used an old wool scarf that my husband wasn't using any more and quilting cotton for the lining and loop.  The pink Christmas scarf is made with fleece and a print that I have been saving for a project like this.
The fringe was really fun to make and a great way to use up scraps. The idea of sewing on tissue paper was new to me, but I love how it works.
I can already tell that I will be making a ton of these scarves. I am participating in the Make Two Challenge. For each handmade Christmas gift you make you make a second gift to donate to others. I think it is a great idea and a wonderful way to teach my kids about giving to those in need. I think this will beperfect for the challenge.

Polka Dot Oliver + S Top

This is my second attempt at the After School pattern by Oliver +S. I added about two inches at the hem and tried to be more precise with my pattern markings this time around.  I like the boat neck shape on this top, I think it has an Audrey Hepburn feel to it.
Despite my attempt to focus on the details more, my buttonholes got a little crazy and not exactly functional. The back ones do work so it still fits over her head and that's what really matters, right?
